Dermaplane vs Chemical Peels
A lot of clients ask what the differences are between chemical peels and dermaplane so we
thought we would write a quick blog to compare the differences.
We have noticed that there is a great a buzz around dermaplaning right now which has led to
chemical peels taking a back seat.
Both chemical peels and dermaplaning are non-surgical cosmetic procedures used to
rejuvenate the look and feel of the skin, however, there are a few subtle differences.
According to what benefits you are looking to achieve and whether or not you want instant
results/good to go, or are happy to allow for recovery downtime, one treatment may be
preferential to you over the other. Check out the basic differences below.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, painless procedure in which a surgical blade is used to gently remove the top layers of the epidermis, which results in the removal of a build up of 3-4 week’s worth of dead skin cells. In addition to this dermaplaning also removes vellus hair aka ‘peach fuzz’.
When the procedure is carried out correctly you can expect benefits such as: –
• Improved skin tone & texture
• Brighter complexion
• Reduction of fine lines
• Increased absorption levels of active ingredients
• Decongested pores
• Flawless makeup application
The procedure should take no longer than 1 hour with visible results and no downtime.
What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels use chemical solutions to remove the upper layers of the epidermis encouraging regeneration and rejuvenation of new skin cells. These treatments come in various depths and strengths and are designed to unveil a brand new layer of the skin.
When the procedure is carried out correctly you can expect benefits such as: –
• Improved skin tone & texture
• Brighter complexion
• Reduction in hyperpigmentation
• Reduction in acne/blemish breakouts
• Rejuvenation of new skin cells
• Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
• Reduction of scarring
What’s the Difference?
The difference between dermaplaning and chemical peels are the depths to which each go. Dermaplaning only touches the top layer of the skin, it does not go beneath the top layer as even the mildest chemical peel does. The healing time post dermaplane is practically instantaneous, whereas skin can take a week to heal post chemical peel.
